Autism center for kids locations

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) affects a significant number of children – for example, the CDC reports that about 1 in 31 (3.2%) eight-year-olds has been identified with ASD. Early, evidence-based intervention is critical: the WHO emphasizes that timely psychosocial therapies can greatly improve communication and social skills for autistic children. At Autism Center for Kids (ACK), we are dedicated to providing comprehensive, child-centered autism therapy. Our goal is to help each child build social and language abilities in a nurturing environment. We tailor individualized programs that may include play-based exercises, creative arts, and behavioral techniques to foster social-emotional growth. For instance, research shows that early intervention leads to better outcomes – children who receive structured support typically make greater progress in communication and learning.

We also recognize that autism impacts whole families. A family-centered approach is a cornerstone of our services. Studies indicate that when parents and caregivers actively participate in therapy, children with autism make significantly larger gains in communication, social skills, and adaptive behavior. Involving families also reduces stress and improves satisfaction with care. For this reason, our therapists train parents in strategies and regularly include family members in sessions, ensuring skills learned in therapy carry over into everyday life.

  • Early, Specialized Autism Therapy: We offer evidence-based autism counseling tailored to each child. The WHO notes that early intervention (before school age, whenever possible) can optimize a child’s development and quality of life. Our speech, language and play therapists focus on social interaction, emotional regulation, and communication skills. These therapies often incorporate child-led play (a non-ABA approach focused on social/emotional growth) alongside structured techniques. When implemented early, such interventions “greatly improve the ability of autistic children to communicate effectively and interact socially”.
  • Family and Individual Support: Through our affiliated Tikvah Family Services, we extend counseling to children, teens, and adults facing developmental and mental health issues. Tikvah provides “compassionate counseling and therapy for children, teens, and adults” with specialties including autism, ADHD, anxiety, and family challenges. Their therapists use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), play therapy, art therapy, and Miller Method® techniques, adapting each session to the client’s needs. This means an autistic teen might receive individual CBT to manage anxiety, while a child might work on turn-taking and emotional expression through play. In all cases, our programs emphasize family collaboration – parents and siblings are engaged in sessions to reinforce learning and boost confidence.
  • Sensory and Play Programs (“Little Explorers”): We know that sensory experiences can support development in autism. Our indoor Ack Little Explorers Sand Pit is a supervised play area filled with sand and sensory materials, designed specifically for young children. Research finds that sand play enhances language and fine motor skills and encourages experimentation and problem-solving. For example, as a child pours sand or molds shapes, they practice hand-eye coordination and vocabulary. Importantly, sand and water play also offer emotional benefits: they can serve as outlets for creativity and stress relief. Children who are upset often find calm through sensory play, acting out feelings with toys in the sand. By integrating this into therapy, we help children regulate emotions and explore learning through their senses.
  • Occupational and Speech Therapy: Many of our clinics offer occupational therapy to improve self-care, coordination, and sensory integration, as well as speech-language therapy to advance communication. These services work hand-in-hand with our counseling. For instance, an occupational therapist might use swinging or textured toys to address vestibular and tactile processing needs, complementing a psychologist’s goals. Similarly, speech therapy targets communication skills in tandem with social skills training. All interventions are coordinated to meet each child’s unique profile.
  • Online and In-Person Care Across Ontario: Recognizing that accessibility is key, we provide therapy both in-person at our clinics and via secure online sessions. This ensures that families throughout Ontario – from the Greater Toronto Area (Vaughan, Toronto, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, North York, Scarborough, Burlington, etc.) to Eastern Ontario (Ottawa, Cornwall, Brockville, Belleville) and beyond – can connect with specialists. Tikvah Family Services explicitly notes offering “online CBT and trauma-informed counseling for teens and adults in Ontario,” with multiple office locations listed on their site. Our interactive map below shows all service locations; families can filter by region or program type to find the nearest office.
  • Teen and Adult Mental Health: Autism often co-occurs with other mental health needs. According to the CDC, nearly 1 in 5 children (age 3–17) has been diagnosed with a mental, emotional, or behavioral disorder. By adolescence, anxiety, depression, and ADHD become more common. Yet only about 20% of adolescents reporting mental health symptoms in surveys had actually received professional therapy in the past year. Our centers strive to bridge this gap. Through Tikvah Family Services we offer counseling for teenagers and adults facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, or life transitions. Licensed therapists provide age-appropriate treatment, such as adolescent group sessions or adult psychotherapy, ensuring continuity of care as children grow up.
  • Family-Centered Programs: Evidence strongly supports involving the whole family in treatment. An autism center study noted that family-centered care produces improved outcomes for children and reduced parental stress. We embed this philosophy in everything we do. Parents are taught behavioral strategies and communication techniques to use at home. We also offer support groups and workshops for siblings and caregivers. When families understand autism and learn practical tools, children make faster progress – research shows that “when families are engaged in therapy…, individuals with autism show greater progress in communication, social skills, and adaptive behaviors”.

Tikvah Family Services literature describes comprehensive therapy for children, teens, and adults with autism, ADHD, anxiety and other issues. Developmental experts note that sensory play (like sand pits) builds motor and social skills. CDC data highlight how common developmental and mental health conditions are in youth (nearly 1 in 5) and the need for accessible therapy. All insights guide our integrated care model.
