Frequently Asked Questions

What is developmental autism therapy?

Developmental autism therapy focuses on helping children build communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, flexible thinking, and problem-solving skills. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, therapy is individualized to support each child's unique developmental strengths and needs.

How is your autism therapy different from ABA?

Our approach emphasizes cognitive development, symbolic thinking, emotional regulation, and meaningful relationships. While ABA can help some children develop specific skills, our developmental model focuses on building internal understanding, independence, and long-term learning. Some families choose to combine both approaches.

Do you offer autism therapy in Vaughan?

Yes. We provide autism therapy at our Vaughan clinic as well as online services for families throughout Ontario. Parents can choose in-person sessions, virtual therapy, or a combination of both.

Is online autism therapy effective?

Yes. Online autism therapy can be highly effective for parent coaching, communication development, executive functioning, emotional regulation, and social skills. Virtual sessions also allow children to learn within the comfort of their home environment.

What ages do you work with?

We primarily support toddlers, children, and teenagers with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Therapy is adapted to each child's developmental level and individual goals.

What services do you offer for children with autism?

Our services include developmental autism therapy, Miller Method® therapy, social skills training, parent coaching, emotional regulation therapy, executive functioning support, and individualized developmental programs.

Do you provide parent coaching?

Yes. Parent coaching is an important part of our services. We teach practical strategies that parents can use at home to improve communication, encourage independence, and support emotional regulation between therapy sessions.

What is the Miller Method®?

The Miller Method® is a developmental approach that helps children improve communication, symbolic thinking, organization, movement, and cognitive flexibility. It can complement speech therapy, occupational therapy, and other developmental services.

Can my child receive therapy if they already attend speech or occupational therapy?

Yes. Our therapy works alongside speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, and other developmental services to provide comprehensive support for your child's growth.

Do you accept children who have not been formally diagnosed with autism?

Yes. We work with children who have autism, developmental delays, social communication challenges, ADHD, executive functioning difficulties, or other developmental concerns. A formal diagnosis is not always required to begin therapy.

How long are therapy sessions?

Most therapy sessions are 50 to 60 minutes, although session length and frequency are individualized based on your child's needs and treatment goals.

How do I get started?

Simply contact Autism Center for Kids to schedule an initial consultation. We will discuss your child's strengths, challenges, developmental goals, and recommend the services that best meet your family's needs.
