Winter Break Camp for Kids
Winter Break Camp for Kids
with Autism, ADHD & Different AbilitiesOur Winter Break Camp is a specialized two-week December program designed for children ages 4–9 with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and different abilities. The program provides a highly structured, supportive, and individualized camp experience where every child receives the level of guidance and attention they need to participate, learn, play, and enjoy their winter break.
Support for each child
Following the success of our program last winter, we are continuing the same high level of individualized support and staffing. Last winter, our program supported 65 children with a team of 96 staff members, allowing us to maintain a strong staffing structure and provide individualized attention throughout the day.

real help and funOur Winter Break Camp is different from a traditional recreational camp. We understand that many children with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and other developmental or learning differences may require additional structure, predictable routines, individualized instruction, sensory support, assistance with transitions, and close adult supervision.
A Two-Week December Winter Break Program
Our Winter Break Camp is a two-week program during the December school break for children ages 4–9.
The program is designed to give children an opportunity to experience a fun and meaningful camp environment while receiving individualized support based on their needs.
Rather than expecting every child to participate in exactly the same way, we create an individualized approach that takes into consideration each child's abilities, interests, communication style, learning needs, sensory needs, social development, and level of independence.

Continuing the Program That Families Trusted Last Winter
Last winter, we welcomed 65 children to our program and had 96 staff members supporting the camp.
That experience helped us understand what children and families need during a busy two-week winter program. It also reinforced the importance of having enough trained staff to support children individually rather than relying on a traditional group-camp model.
Our Winter Break Camp continues the same approach.
We are not simply increasing the number of children in a room and asking them to follow a standard camp schedule. Instead, we focus on creating an environment where children can participate according to their individual abilities while receiving consistent adult support.
For many families, school holidays can be challenging because regular school routines and supports are interrupted. A structured winter program can help children maintain routines, practice skills, engage socially, and enjoy meaningful activities during the break.

1:1 Support for Every Child
One of the most important features of our Winter Break Camp is our 1:1 staffing model.
Each child is assigned individualized staff support so that the child has an adult available to provide guidance, assistance, encouragement, supervision, and support throughout the program.
The purpose of 1:1 support is not to limit a child's independence. In fact, individualized support can help children become more independent by giving them the assistance they need to successfully participate in activities.
Depending on the child, staff may provide support with:
- Following the daily schedule
- Transitioning between activities
- Communication
- Social interaction
- Participating in group activities
- Following instructions
- Managing changes in routine
- Sensory needs
- Emotional regulation
- Personal organization
- Developing independence
- Participating in recreational activities
Every child is different. Some children may require significant hands-on support, while others may primarily need prompting, supervision, encouragement, or assistance with transitions.
Our individualized approach allows staff to adjust their support according to each child's needs.
Additional Staff for Extra Support
Although our program operates with a 1:1 ratio, we also have additional staff supporting the program.
Additional staff are important because a successful specialized camp requires more than simply assigning one staff member to each child.
Extra staff can help with program activities, transitions, group activities, supervision, activity preparation, and unexpected situations.
This additional staffing structure helps us maintain a supportive environment while allowing children to participate in activities together.
It also gives our team the flexibility to respond when a child needs additional assistance.
Staff Requirements
Our staff members have completed the required safety and screening processes for their roles, including:
- Valid First Aid certification
- CPI training
- Vulnerable Sector Checks
- Police Record Checks
- Nine weeks of staff training
These requirements are an important part of our commitment to creating a safe and supportive camp environment.
What Is Individualized Programming for Every Child
There is no single camp schedule that works perfectly for every child.
A child with autism may have different communication and sensory needs from a child with ADHD. A child with a learning disability may require different instructional strategies from a child who needs support with social communication or transitions.
That is why we provide an individualized program for each child.
Before the program begins, information provided by the family can help our team understand the child's strengths, interests, challenges, preferences, communication style, and support needs.
This information helps our staff plan an approach that allows the child to participate meaningfully in the program.
Our goal is to meet children where they are and help them have a successful winter break experience.
Who Can Attend Winter Break Camp?
Our program welcomes children ages 4–9 who may benefit from additional individualized support.
This includes children with:
Autism
ADHD
Learning disabilities
Developmental differences
Communication differences
Sensory differences
Social-emotional challenges
Other different abilities
Children do not need to have the same diagnosis or the same level of support needs.
Our individualized model allows us to work with children based on their own strengths and needs rather than expecting every child to fit into one standard camp structure.
A Welcoming Environment for Different Abilities
We believe children should have opportunities to participate in recreational and educational experiences regardless of their abilities.
A child does not need to be able to sit still for long periods, communicate in a particular way, or participate in every activity exactly like their peers in order to belong at camp.
Our team works to create opportunities for participation while respecting individual differences.
Some children may want to participate in every activity. Others may need breaks, additional prompting, sensory accommodations, or a different way of participating.
Our staff can provide individualized guidance so children can experience the program in a way that is appropriate for them.
What about Structure and Predictability
Winter break can be exciting, but it can also be difficult for children who rely heavily on predictable routines.
School is closed, regular schedules change, and families may have different holiday plans.
Our Winter Break Camp provides a structured daily environment during the December break.
Children can become familiar with the routine, know what to expect, and receive support when transitioning from one activity to another.
Predictability can be particularly helpful for children who experience difficulty with unexpected changes.
Our staff use consistent routines and individualized support to help children move through the day successfully.
Supporting Social Development
The camp also provides opportunities for children to interact with peers.
Social participation can look different for every child.
For one child, it may mean joining a group activity. For another, it may mean playing alongside another child. For another, it may mean practicing communication, taking turns, sharing materials, or asking for help.
Our staff can support children during these interactions while respecting their individual communication and social styles.
The goal is to provide meaningful opportunities for social participation without forcing every child into the same social experience.
Learning Through Activities?
Winter Break Camp is not designed to feel like a traditional classroom.
Children learn through participation, movement, play, social experiences, creative activities, structured routines, and individualized guidance.
Our staff can use children's interests as opportunities to encourage communication, problem-solving, independence, cooperation, attention, and social engagement.
Activities can be adapted based on the child's abilities.
For example, if a child finds a particular activity difficult, staff can modify the instructions, provide additional prompting, break the activity into smaller steps, or find another way for the child to participate.
A Camp Experience Designed Around the Child
The central philosophy of our Winter Break Camp is simple:
The program should adapt to the child — not expect every child to adapt to the same program.
This means our team considers the child's individual needs when planning support.
A child who needs movement breaks should be able to receive appropriate movement opportunities.
A child who needs additional transition support should receive it.
A child who communicates differently should have their communication style respected.
A child who needs additional time to complete an activity should not automatically be considered unsuccessful.
Individualization allows us to focus on what each child can do and how we can help them participate.
Facility Access
The Winter Break Camp will have access to the program facility as permitted by the facility and applicable arrangements.
Access to the available spaces allows our team to organize activities and provide children with an environment appropriate for the program.
The specific areas and activities available may depend on facility access, scheduling, safety requirements, and program needs.
What is the cost ?
The cost of our two-week December Winter Break Camp is:
$4,500 for the full two-week program.
The program fee covers the two-week camp experience and individualized support provided through our 1:1 staffing model.
Because the program requires substantial staffing and preparation, families are asked to complete the registration process and provide a 25% deposit to secure the child's place.
Registration Payment?
A 25% deposit is required as part of registration.
Because our program operates with individualized staffing, registration places require significant advance planning.
Once a child is registered, we begin preparing staffing and individualized programming around the child's participation.
For this reason, families should review the cancellation policy carefully before registering.
What about help with payment?
Families may be able to use available funding or insurance benefits toward the cost of the program, depending on their individual eligibility, coverage, funding guidelines, and provider requirements.
The program may be eligible for coverage through OAP funding, private insurance, and special-needs funding, where applicable.
Families should confirm their individual coverage and eligibility before registering.
Funding programs and insurance companies may have their own rules regarding eligible services, documentation, reimbursement, and payment.
Our team can provide appropriate registration and program documentation to assist families with their funding or insurance process where applicable
OAP Funding
Families receiving funding through the Ontario Autism Program (OAP) may wish to determine whether their available funding can be used toward the program.
Eligibility and reimbursement depend on the family's individual funding situation and the applicable OAP rules.
Families should confirm with their OAP funding administrator or provider before relying on OAP funding to pay for the program.
Private Insurance
Some families may also have extended health or other insurance coverage that can contribute toward services for children with special needs.
Insurance policies are different, so families should contact their insurance provider to confirm whether their plan covers this type of program and what documentation is required.
We recommend confirming coverage before registration.
Special-Needs Funding
Families who have access to other special-needs funding programs may also wish to investigate whether the funding can be applied to the Winter Break Camp.
Funding eligibility varies by program and family.
Our registration team can provide information about the program that families may use when communicating with their funding provider.
Cancellation and Refund Policy
Because our Winter Break Camp requires advance staffing, individualized planning, and preparation, our cancellation policy is designed to reflect the resources committed to each child's place.
Cancellation Two Weeks Before Camp
If a family cancels at least two weeks before the camp begins, the family will receive a full refund, subject to the applicable registration terms.
Cancellation Before the First Day but Within Two Weeks
If a family cancels within the two-week period immediately before camp begins, the refund will be provided minus the 25% deposit.
The deposit is retained because staffing and individualized preparation have already been committed to the child's registration.
Cancellation After the First Day
Once the child has attended the first day of camp, no refund will be provided.
This policy applies because staffing arrangements, individualized planning, facility arrangements, and program resources are committed based on the child's registration.
Families are encouraged to carefully review the cancellation policy before completing registration.

Preparing Your Child for Winter Break Camp
Parents can help their child prepare for the program by talking about camp before the first day.
Children may benefit from knowing:
- Where they will be going
- Who will be supporting them
- What the daily routine may look like
- What activities they may participate in
- That they can ask for help
- That staff are there to support them
For children who have difficulty with transitions, preparation can be particularly helpful.
Families can also share information about their child's interests, strengths, communication, sensory preferences, triggers, routines, and successful strategies during registration.
The more our team understands about a child, the better prepared we can be to provide individualized support.
A Positive December Experience
The December school break should be more than simply finding somewhere for your child to go while school is closed.
It can be an opportunity for children to build confidence, practice independence, participate in activities, develop social skills, explore interests, and experience success in a supportive environment.
Our Winter Break Camp is designed to make that possible.
With a 1:1 ratio, additional staff, individualized programming, trained team members, and experience supporting children with different abilities, we work to create a camp environment where children can feel supported while enjoying their winter break.
